CONSTRUCTION has started on a new office and caretaker’s residence at the Coledale beach camping reserve as the Surf Life Saving Club moves to improve facilities.
Northern Exposure reported last October that the campground would undergo a facelift following the decision by Wollongong City Council to grant the surf club a 10-year lease.
Caretaker Steve Pinnock said the certainty of tenure meant the office could be renovated and expanded.
“We never had any tenure on the property up until last year,” Mr Pinnock said. “Now it’s our asset and the committee is very motivated about looking after our asset.
“A lot of money will go into vegetation and bringing the office facility up to date.”
Income from the campground is Coledale SLSC’s only form of fundraising and all money earned goes back into the club.
Construction works have led to the relocation of the office to the surf club building “making things a little more squashy than normal”.
Camping costs $13 a night for an adult, $11 for nine to 18-year-olds and children under eight are free. For more information or to book, phone 4267 4302 or email email@example.com
